School of Rock Weezer Poster

School of Rock Weezer Blue Album show poster with four clay-style 3D band figures on blue

A gig poster for School of Rock, built around a Weezer-themed night celebrating the Blue Album at Shaka’s Live. Four 3D clay-style figures stand in for the band, rendered with the same soft, dimensional character style — understated, a little deadpan, letting the clean typography and that classic Weezer blue carry the nostalgia rather than leaning on caricature.

A Great Fall…

A Great Fall illustration: fast food mascots as Humpty Dumpty falling off a brick wall

A personal piece riffing on Humpty Dumpty, swapping in instantly recognizable fast food mascots — the King, Wendy, the Colonel, and a the Hamburglar — perched on a brick wall, one already fallen and cracked open like an egg in the grass below. Built with soft, plush/clay-textured character work and moody cinematic lighting that plays the absurd setup completely straight, which is what makes the sight gag land. A fun excuse to push character design and lighting outside of client constraints.

Monarch Mag Cover

Monarch magazine cover illustration for ODU's bioelectrics research feature with clay-style 3D icons

Cover illustration for Old Dominion University’s Monarch magazine (Winter 2017), for their feature on bioelectrics research — clay-style icons (heart, atom, bandage, lightbulb) tied together with lightning bolts across bold color-blocked backgrounds, making the science feel tactile and playful.

Motor Co. Poster

Black Shark CD release gig poster for Hammer No More the Fingers at Motorco Music Hall, Durham NC

This one goes back to my days living in Durham, NC — a poster I made for @hammernomorethefingers Black Shark CD release show at Motorco Music Hall. I must have watched their video for “Fall Down, Play Dead” 100 times to capture their likeness- they are a really great band, too!

Motorco was one of my regular spots back then — the kind of place you’d end up on a hot summer night with a cold beer and no real plan to leave.

Bowtie Illustrations

Isometric 3D illustration of an online storefront for Bowtie

A few years back I got to design this isometric icon set for the team at Bowtie, and now I want to take it a step further and rendered a couple of the scenes out in soft 3D. Same scenes, two totally different finishes: the flat vector versions for the clean, consistent system they needed across the site, and the clay-style 3D renders for places that wanted a little more depth and warmth — the glowing cube on the storefront screen, the stacked file folders, the little location pin.

This is one of my favorite kinds of project — building a flat illustration system and then getting to push it further into something dimensional. Really fun working with that team.

Green Day Poster

Music of Green Day tribute show poster with clay-style 3D band figures

Updated poster I made for a “Music of Green Day” tribute show a while back for a great local program that gets kids performing live. This one’s always been a favorite of mine, and I couldn’t resist running it through a clay-style AI treatment to see what it’d look like.

Something about that studio-clay texture just fits the energy of this poster — a little exaggerated, a little theatrical, and it brings out details in the character work that got lost in the flatter original render.

If you know me, you know Virginia Beach Leadership Workshop has been a huge part of my life. Since the Virginia Beach Student Leadership Foundation was founded five years ago, I’ve had the honor of helping with art direction for the foundation — and this piece means a lot to me because of that.

Swipe through to see a couple of the different treatments we explored for this year’s artwork. If you want to support student leadership here in Virginia Beach — whether that’s attending, volunteering, or donating — head to vblead.org to learn more.
